How install Windows on a laptop without CD drive and USB boot support. The whole process is in my blog:
So, after a lot of attempts I succeeded in installing XP onto my old laptop that, beside cd drive, is still a good PC and would be a real pity to scrap.
Like many old PCs, it didn't have bootable USB ports, but just that fragile cd drive, that after few years began first to fail burning, then to fail simple reading, leading to the impossibility to boot any cd or dvd, operating system or live cd whatsoever.
No more BartPE cd, no TrueImage cd, nothing. The only hope was that the system hard drive couldn't fail or break. However, it was an unpleasant situation, and I tried to push for a failsafe state finding a way to install again Windows XP.
So, in short, it was not that easy to find the proper way, but at the end the process is not that tough.
