I tried to cover everything you will need to know when changing your pool pump motor from HP to finding the pump type. The tips on finding the pump HP with the impeller works well. You can call your local pool store and give them the number or just Google it. It is also good to know the pump type in case you need any pump parts like housing gasket, diffuser gasket etc. You can generally ID the pump with the label on it. But in some cases the label is worn off so check the pump lid or pump basket for some kind of number. With that your local pool store or internet search will give you the pump type.
The wiring is pretty basic although in some 115V installs the wires used in the timer were not up to code. So you might have a tan or brown wire or a combination of colors besides the usual green, black and white. If you are unsure you might need to contact a local electrician because you can't just connect them and test it - chances are the motor might burn out.
It is important to know if it is a 230v connection or 115v. The breaker is an obvious way to tell. The time clock will also be wired for one or the other. You can watch these two videos to see what time clock voltage you have if you are unsure at the breaker.

It is of course cheaper to do the install yourself but if you need to call a professional they will charge anywhere from $400-$500 including the motor and most parts - minus the Impeller.
It is also a good idea to just use a new impeller on the new motor install as they wear out over time. If the pump is over 5 years old just go with a new impeller also. they are less than $30.00.
