1988 Ford Ranger Ignition Cylinder Won’t Turn To On And Is Stuck! Fixed And Running!!!. My 1988 Ford Ranger had a stuck key. I could not turn it to on. If I could turn it to on, the repair would have been easy. I was left with an option of drilling into the lock cylinder to break the pin which holds and releases the cylinder. It worked! After drilling for a few minutes, I was able to take out the bad cylinder. But alas a new problem - I had broken of the tab deep within the cylinder. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, I was able to turn the broken off stem and tab (like turning the key to on), and pull it out. Once this was removed, inserting the new lock cylinder and attaching the wire was easy! My Ranger started back up and has been running ever since. $20 part at Autozone saved me money by doing it myself.
