Setting Up Static IP Ubuntu Server. Srihari Ravikumar lets continue our series we have successful installed Ubuntu Server 12.04 with Openssh installed so get access to our server. Even though we have up & running server we cannot straight away installing application & configuring services as such. If you had noticed our server was configured in NAT & had taken DHCP IP address. This is bad we have to access our server quite regularly so server needs a static IP address.
We are still going to stick with single NIC Card but we are going change NAT to Bridge Mode adaptor for time being. Just login to your server with your username & password do changes as u follow along this tutorial.
Commands to access network interfaces: sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces
Keys to be used press (Shift & i) key together to insert values into your config file.
After making changes press (esc & :wq) to save & write changes Restart your server.
This should open up Ubuntu server's network configuration file.
Now do the changes that as I do in tutorial.
Note: Default gateway for my network is 192.168.0.1 this might change for your network 192.168.1.1 is most commonly used one. Give your appropriate gateway or else wont route properly.
If all goes well we would be able to ping google public dns 126.96.36.199 & we should get a response.
Thank you for watching...!!!
