You purchased GoDaddy’s Website Builder to create your new site and you selected a theme. Time to customize! This video will show you how to make text changes to your website.
Meet Molly. She owns Molly’s Bark and Wine. Molly chose her theme and is ready to change the default text to her text.
This is Molly’s Website Builder dashboard. There’s not much here because she hasn’t published her site yet.
This is a thumbnail of the theme she chose. If Molly wanted a different theme, she could simply click Themes in the top navigation bar and select a new one. But she likes her theme so she clicks Edit Site.
Here’s the theme Molly chose. It came pre-populated with text to give her an idea of what content might work where. The first thing she wants to do is change the company name.
She double-clicks on Mama Mia. A dotted line displays around the text along with the editor tool. That’s handy! Molly highlights “Mama Mia” and clicks the Cut icon – the scissors – on the text editor.
With her cursor still in the text box, Molly types “Molly’s Bark and Wine.”
Hmmm, the text box isn’t long enough. To resize it, Molly hovers her cursor over the little square on the right border of the text box. When the double arrow becomes a single arrow, she holds down her mouse button and drags the border to the right to make the box longer. Voila! Now her business name fits.
If Molly wants to change the way her company name looks, she can highlight it and then use the options in the text editor to play with different heading styles, fonts, sizes, and colors.
Molly clicks red on the color palette and her company name changes to red. But she likes the original better, so she just clicks the Undo button.
Website Builder makes editing the default text in your theme quick and easy.
If you’re struggling with what to write, use the default text as a guide, or look to other existing marketing materials you might have. Before you know it, you’ll have your theme well on its way to becoming your website!
