2010 Toyota Prius - Transaxle Fluid Change. WARNING: Attempt at your own risk. May void warranty. If you own any part of this video, or want it to be taken down, contact me and I will do so immediately.
This is a video of me changing out the transaxle fluid in my 2010 Toyota Prius. What prompted me to change this was I had the car in park, reversed to get out of a parking spot, and put it in drive, hit the accelerator, and it didn't respond. Did it again: same thing. I have also been experiencing the vehicle stuttering and shuddering from a stop at a light after pressing the accelerator. Still love the car despite this! Since the change, it has been running great.
Lots of forum members at www.priuschat.com recommend changing this fluid at 60k, and I was actually at 75k, unsure of when or if it was changed before I got the vehicle at 59k from Enterprise. I live in Las Vegas (110* heat) and always drive in PWR mode, so that might have played a part. There's a few resources below if you have more questions about how to do this or about the Prius in general.
UPDATE: My car is running great, and still doesn't stutter when I press the gas. I also noticed a lot of people are getting wrong information when they go to the dealer, so I wanted to clear a few things up. The INVERTER is NOT the same thing as the CVT! Don't let them fool you. An inverter is an electrical/mechanical component that converts power from a specific source into useable energy for your application. CVT stands for "continuously variable transmission".
