How to Move / Migrate a Plex Server from a Windows PC to Another. In this video, I show you how to migrate a Plex Server, including all libraries and metadata, from one PC to another with a higher passmark. While this video is applicable to any Windows-to-Windows transfer of a Plex Server, I am going from Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2016.
Please note that I make an assumption in my video that the username on the old machine is the same as the username on the new one. If they are different, you will need to make a change in the imported registry setting for \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath, changing the path to reflect the new username. Thanks to Reuben Tarran.
Note: at the 2:15 mark, go ahead and launch the server. That will create the LOCALAPPDATA folder that you need later on in the video. You can then exit the server (right-click on the Plex icon in bottom right corner, and click exit). Thanks to rblnr.
Note: Before you merge the reg file on the new PC at the 5:19 mark, please BACK UP your registry!
